From Greece to Palestine

A few words about us

The Solidarity Archive: From Greece to Palestine is an independent project established in October 2023 with the aim of creating a digital archive of documents produced by Greek political groups, collectives and associations of the broader left and libertarian space regarding Palestine and solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The ever-growing collection includes various records from the sixties to the present day, including magazines, posters, political texts, pamphlets, books and stickers among others. Among the archives are magazines from the anti-doctoral struggle period, posters from the post-doctoral period, translated books, pamphlets from leftist and libertarian groups, articles in movement magazines, and miscellaneous items.

The Solidarity Archive is a non-profit initiative that seeks to enable the production of knowledge about the history of the Greek people’s solidarity with the Palestinians through an open framework of collection, digitization and exhibition. The Archive aims to provide an open and accessible platform for the public to address the scattered, physical and (non) archive. Open, bottom-up, archives open the way for conversations that would otherwise be rendered impossible. From people getting in touch to learn more to those wishing to contribute something from their past and their involvement in the movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people, open access digital archives open up various new possibilities for engaging not only with the past, but also with the future. The archiving and digitization of the history of Greek solidarity with Palestine is one such project. Archiving, through documentation and preservation of the struggle is in itself a militant act.

Both the website and any publications that may be produced will be available in Greek, Arabic and English. Greek and Arabic due to the nature of this initiative and the approach to the use of language and translation as forms of building solidarity across borders and language barriers. In this sense, the use of Arabic in particular hopes to create bridges of communication with the movement in the Arab world, from Palestine and Lebanon to Algeria and Egypt. English for accessibility to a wider audience.

Despite the effort to collect as much relevant material as possible from the 1960s to the present, it is impossible without the contribution of the public and political groups within the wider left/anti-authoritarian/libertarian/autonomous space, where they themselves have participated as political subjects in solidarity actions. Thus, anyone who can contribute material would contribute in their own way to the archive that speaks to stories of the past, present and future.
